Glasstown Arts District

Glasstown Arts District

Wherever you live, if you’re an art enthusiast, the Glasstown Arts District in Millville is a must visit! Recent developments in the historic downtown have turned it into a vibrant arts district, and a social and cultural destination where art buffs can visit for a day or longer, with museums, studios, and retail shops displaying multiple varieties of fine arts.

The historic city of Millville had its beginnings in 1802, as the local Maurice River offered shipping access into the area from the Delaware Bay. The town grew thanks to its textile and glass manufacturing status, but in later years, the manufacturing and computer processing jobs left town. Following the economic downturn, the downtown area of Millville became home of a growing arts district, fittingly named Glasstown.

Today the Glasstown Arts District is home to many art galleries and studios, a theater, and retail shops with a variety of crafts for sale from local artists. Visit the Riverfront Renaissance Center for the Arts with its multiple rotating galleries and views overlooking High Street; see An Octopus’s Garden with its multiple displays from sculptors, painters, stitchers and more; or have a look at the fine works from Maryann Cannon in her two studios, the Copperplate Studio and the La Bottaga of Art. All of these and many more galleries are here for you to see.

Not sure when to go? Plan your visit for the third Friday of each month, as galleries extend their hours and live music is played on the street. Local events and demonstrations and plenty of artwork displays can be found everywhere from artists near and far. Feeling romantic? Add a cruise on the Maurice River to your day or enjoy the hiking and biking trail through the parks!

At the end of your exciting and tiring day in the Glasstown Arts District, take a short trip to the Ramada Vineland…enjoy a superb steak dinner at our Dakota Prime Steakhouse and get a great night’s sleep before enjoying a great breakfast at IHOP the next morning. It’s the perfect ending to a perfect day, in one of South Jersey’s finest arts attractions!
